Operation: Over Freedom?

President George W Bush has authorised cuts in US troops levels in Iraq, Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld said during a visit to the country.

Speaking to troops in Falluja, Mr Rumsfeld did not reveal the exact size of the cut but said combat forces would be reduced by two brigades.

Further reductions will be considered "at some point in 2006", he said.

The move will take the number of US soldiers to below the 138,000 level, seen for most of this year.

A brigade is usually made up of 4,000-5,000 troops.

"More than 2,100 US troops have been killed in Iraq since the end of the invasion in April 2003, while Iraqi deaths are put at more than 30,000.''

Evolution, it's in the bag baby

The author told me the ruling was the legal equivalent of a rather loud fart in church, something very exciting to the legal community. To Sum Up
What do the words Monkey Trial mean to you? I was first taught the Scopes Monkey Trial was something beyond evil, for years pulpits denounced it as "the beginning of the end". This is the word I grew up on, and the words I first rebelled against. Yet as the above author has pointed out, all my rebellion got mixed up in some big not-really-a-"conspiracy" ball of wax (Life sucks for those not white, rich, american, male, straight, gender conforming & etc A.K.A. LET IT ALL BURN). Am I against bans in general? I do so hate appreciations of systemic constructions. Yes, I know this may seem irrational...but maybe in the end it's all a cycle of desecration and creation. Which has nothing to do with science! (giggle)

Ridiculous News: Xbox Tampering

The criminal complaint filed in federal court in Los Angeles on Monday named ACME Game Store co-owners Jason Jones, 34, and Jonathan Bryant, 44, as well as Pei "Patrick" Cai, 32.

The complaint alleges that Jones and Bryant sold Xbox systems that Cai modified with chips and hard drives that allowed users to copy rented or borrowed games onto the console for future play.

Ridiculous right?

Go Viggo, Go Viggo

Viggo Mortensen has defended his recent description of George Bush as a
"beast" in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. The Lord of the Rings
star clarified his remarks to Progressive magazine, explaining:

"I'm not anti-Bush, I'm anti-Bush behaviour. In other words I'm against cheating, greed, hypocrisy, cruelty, racism, imperialism, religious fundamentalism,
treason and the seemingly limitless capacity for hypocrisy shown by Bush and
his administration." He added, "I hope the beast falls down soon."

Q: You have a lot of interests outside acting. You’re a photographer, a poet, a musician, a painter, and a publisher. If, for some bizarre reason, you had to choose just one medium in which to express yourself, what would it be?

Mortensen: That’s like saying would you rather lose your eyesight, your hearing, or your ability to speak. I would rather not even think about it. I pursue the things I do because I’m interested in them. And I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, putting one foot in front of the other.

The sound of Justice dying

Then, in the most radical departure of decorum for this modern era of executions, the trio shouted as they left the death chamber: "The state of California just killed an innocent man!" The sound crackled like lightning through the thick silence of the room, and Lora Owens gasped as if she'd been slapped. She burst into tears, pressing a Kleenex to her face.

Why every gay boy @ UCLA knows to avoid Bryan Singer

SUPER-STUD FACES A SHRINKING
IT'S a bird, it's a plane — it's superbulge!

"Superman Returns" star Brandon Routh is supposedly giving the suits at Warner Brothers fits because of his prodigious package of masculinity. The 26-year-old beefcake's extra-large endowment is said to be so distracting through his skin-tight costume that producers may have to shrink him during post-production.

"It's a major issue for the studio," a "Superman Returns" production source fretted to the London Sun. "Brandon is extremely well-endowed and they don't want it up on the big screen. We may be forced to erase his package with digital effects."

Routh's overstuffed basket must be steaming up the camera lens of openly gay, boy-crazy director Bryan Singer. The horny helmer — who reportedly pushed for Routh over the studio's choice, Jim Caviezel — has a history of frisky behavior with hunky young actors.

Singer cast unknown hunk Alex Burton as Pyro in "X-Men" after the pair had a hot tub session at a Hollywood party, reports radarmagazine.com. Burton has not appeared in a single movie since "X-Men."

Following the filming of Singer's "Apt Pupil" several years ago, a number of young male extras on the movie filed lawsuits claiming they had been bullied into stripping naked for a shower scene, and that Singer had held private screenings of the soapy footage at his home.

None of the lawsuits ever went anywhere.

Reps for Singer and Warner Bros. declined comment yesterday, but Simon Halls, a publicist for Routh (rhymes with "mouth"), told PAGE SIX the "super package" rumor is "completely without merit" — before adding mischievously, "I suspect that everyone at Warner Bros. is happy with everything Brandon Routh brings to the role."

Halls also said Singer has been "totally professional" with Routh, who has a longtime girlfriend.

"Bryan Singer is one of the best directors out there," Halls said. "People are just creating all kinds of crazy items about a movie that is going to be a huge, huge movie next summer." Huge indeed!

New Film About A Female Hero

Aimee Semple's a personal hero, the church she built is Awesome!

Love her for her crazy frevor, and then much discussed reappearance--always loved a good story. as a woman leader, she's been a lesbian icon as well since her friendship with tallulah bankhead...really any chick who lived as she thought she should back in the day = a lesbian icon ;)

I didn't know she coined the slogan, "that's my story and i'm sticking to it"!

ooh aimee cut out dolls from the 20's!

Kiera Chaplin as Aimee in a new film! OMG, that's totally sweet:
"...You give your drama-starved people who absent themselves through fear, a theater which they can reconcile with their narrow beliefs.... Whether you like it or not, you're an actress." - Charlie Chaplain to Aimee Semple

Chappelle Returns-Sort Of

Comedy Central suits have fired off a popgun in an effort to frighten Dave Chappelle back to the table to talk about the aborted third season of his "Chappelle's Show," announcing that sometime in the second quarter of '06 it will telecast the sketches he shot before pulling a Cat Stevens and dropping out.

Chappelle told Time he took that first break because he felt the show had moved from sending up racial stereotypes to reinforcing them.

When he returned, however, that had not changed, according to his writing partner at the time, Neal Brennan. Brennan told Time that Chappelle would like an idea; it would be shot, but Chappelle would then say, "This sketch is racist, and I don't want this on the air."

"He was calling his own writing racist," Brennan said.
-Washington Post

I am not surprised Neal said as such, I can only imagine the pressure on Dave after being the front man for a bi-racial writing team. I think as more details emerge we'll understand more about their complicated writing relationship. One of the biggest reasons the show was so successful was the ability to reach both white and black audiences...only problem? They were laughing at different things.

Narnia Music

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Singer/songwriters
Alanis Morissette, Tim Finn,
Imogen Heap and Lisbeth Scott have contributed songs for the soundtrack to "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

Due December 13 via Walt Disney Records, the set also features 13 tracks of Harry Gregson-Williams' orchestral score to the film version of the C.S. Lewis adventure. The film opens December 9 via Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media.

Morissette contributes the song "Wunderkind," former Split Enz principal Tim Finn adds "Winter Light," and Scott offers "Where," which is exclusive to the soundtrack and does not appear in the film.

As for Heap's "Narnia" contribution, "Can't Take It In," the former Frou Frou singer recently told Billboard.com that it presented something of a challenge for her.

"I got thrown into the studio and had to produce it, mix it, write it and everything in less than... Well, I needed like a year more than I got," she added. "But I managed to somehow pull it out of me, and I finished the song an hour before the Disney girl had to take it. Pretty scary."

BEEN WORRIED THAT SEEING IT WOULD BE LIKE A PASSION OF THE CHRIST MOVE, WHEN I HEARD THEY WERE MARKETING THE FILM TOWARDS CHURCHES SPECIFICALLY...BUT IT WAS ONE OF MY FAV SERIES GROWING UP...

and str8's wonder why it's so hard to come out?

New bio spills code of gay '50s Hollywood

By Gregg Kilday Fri Dec 2, 2:47 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Henry Willson, the agent who masterminded Rock Hudson's career along with those of such other Hollywood hunks -- straight and gay -- as Troy Donohue andTab Hunter, had rules for his gay clients.

"No two men can live together and have a career in Hollywood," he advised one of his actors in the '50s. "It is not allowed. You'll ruin it all if you live with this other man."

Lennon Sings Again

Singer John Lennon compares life in the Beatles to decadent ancient Rome in an interview to be broadcast in the UK for the first time.

Memorable Quotes:

"We got fed up of being sidemen to Paul after Brian Epstein (Beatles manager) died," he said. "Paul took over and supposedly led us. What's leading us when you wander round in circles?"

Lennon's use of heroin led to the treatment he and Ono received from "the Beatles and their pals". "We were in real pain," he said.

"I'd like to list what we did and what the Stones did two months later on every album," he said. "Mick imitates us."

South Africa: Gay Weddings!

South Africa's highest court has ruled in favour of same-sex marriages, which are banned under current legislation.

The Constitutional Court ordered that parliament amend marriage laws to allow gay weddings within a year.

The constitution outlaws discrimination against gays and lesbians, but social attitudes remain more conservative.

The court ordered that the definition of marriage be changed from a "union between a man and a woman" to a "union between two persons".

Last year, the Supreme Court of Appeal had ruled in a case brought by a lesbian couple that the current law discriminated against homosexuals.
